Marne Leroy Mercer was named by his father Ammon after the second battle of the Marne in WW I and Ammon's best friend Leroy, killed in the battle of Vimy Ridge. In WWII Marne was destined to cross the Marne River with the 40th Field Artillery group, fighting their way across Europe to defeat the Nazis. Returning home after VE Day, he was part of the great generation that built a prosperous post-war America. As an engineer with Lockheed, he helped America prevail in the race to space. But raised in the small Mormon town of Bountiful, Utah, his life was also defined by family values. He was devoted to his wife of 66 years, Maxine, and his two boys, Lee and Larry. They shared a wonderful family life and many adventures over the years. At 91 years old, Marne created the memoir A Proud Narrative of the "Greatest Generation: " Story of a Wonderful, Lucky Life to share his experiences with generations yet to come.
