Author Biography

From shaping the state's public health landscape as Georgia's Department of Health Commissioner to transforming medical education as dean of Mercer University's School of Medicine, W. DOUGLAS SKELTON, MD, has mentored generations of physicians and championed community-based care with strategic vision and enduring commitment to the people of Georgia. FRANCES CARTER PURCELL, PhD, a Mercer alumna and lifelong Bear, spent nearly twenty years on the faculty of Mercer University School of Medicine before serving as assistant dean for Curriculum at the Medical College of Georgia. Since her retirement, she has devoted her time to mentoring and advancing medical education leadership.
